S&P Global and Anthropic bring Capital IQ data into Claude
S&P Global and Anthropic announced an integration that connects S&P Capital IQ Financials, earnings call transcripts and other datasets to Claude through a Kensho-built MCP server. No financial terms were disclosed.
NEW YORK, July 15, 2025 S&P Global and Anthropic announced an integration that brings S&P Global's financial data into Claude.1
Terms of the deal
S&P Global's AI innovation hub, Kensho, built a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server and an LLM-ready API that connect Claude to S&P Global datasets, including S&P Capital IQ Financials and earnings call transcripts.1 Users query the data in natural language directly within Claude. The release also mentions flexible data feed delivery options.1
The release does not disclose contract terms, duration, licensing conditions or any financial terms.1
Background
The announcement came as Anthropic expanded Claude's offering for financial services customers, with other data providers joining over the following months, including LSEG and Moody's. S&P Global sells financial data, ratings and analytics to banks, asset managers and corporations.
What it means for data sellers
The sale here is of access, not of a copy of the data. S&P kept its data on its own infrastructure and exposed it through a controlled connector. A company with proprietary data can follow a similar path: build a clean API, define which datasets are available, and let the AI platform bring customers to it. Pricing stays between the parties.
How the deal came together
- Kensho builds the connector. S&P Global's AI hub Kensho built an LLM-ready API and an MCP server for Claude.
- Datasets named. The release names S&P Capital IQ Financials and earnings call transcripts among the data available.
- Natural language access. Users query the data in plain language inside Claude, with data feed delivery options also mentioned.
- Terms private. The release gives no pricing, duration or licensing conditions.
Takeaways for companies with data
- Packaging data as an LLM-ready API is a product in itself, and S&P built one through its own AI unit.
- The buyer is a distribution platform, so the seller keeps its subscription revenue.
- Named datasets, not a vague promise of 'data', make the offer concrete to customers.
