LexisNexis and Harvey form alliance to bring U.S. case law and Shepard's Citations into Harvey

LexisNexis and Harvey announced a strategic alliance that integrates LexisNexis generative AI technology, U.S. case law and statutes, and Shepard's Citations into the Harvey platform. The companies will also co-develop legal workflows, and no financial terms were disclosed.

NEW YORK AND SAN FRANCISCO, June 18, 2025 LexisNexis Legal & Professional and Harvey announced a strategic alliance to integrate LexisNexis generative AI technology and legal content into Harvey's platform and to develop advanced legal workflows.1

Terms of the deal

LexisNexis will provide its generative AI technology, U.S. case law and statutes, and Shepard's Citations for use in Harvey. The companies said the technology and content would be integrated later in 2025, and development of Motion to Dismiss and Motion for Summary Judgment workflows would begin immediately.1

No financial terms were disclosed.1

Background

Harvey is a legal AI platform used by law firms and corporate legal teams. LexisNexis is one of the two largest providers of primary legal content in the United States. The alliance gives Harvey users answers grounded in LexisNexis content and validated by citation tools.

What it means for data sellers

Specialist content, especially when paired with validation and citation tools, is attractive to AI product companies that need answers professionals can trust. A seller can negotiate for more than a fee: co-development, integration depth and branding are part of the value. Sellers should also consider how the content is surfaced, since access inside another company's product can raise questions about customer ownership.

How the deal came together

  1. Alliance announced. LexisNexis and Harvey announced the alliance on June 18, 2025.
  2. Content and technology. LexisNexis will bring its AI technology, primary law content and Shepard's Citations to Harvey users.
  3. Co-developed workflows. Work on motion to dismiss and motion for summary judgment workflows began immediately.
  4. Integration later in 2025. The integration into Harvey was planned for later in 2025.

Takeaways for companies with data

  • A content owner can partner with an AI product company instead of licensing to a general-purpose lab.
  • Citation validation (Shepard's) is a trust layer that makes the content more valuable inside AI answers.
  • The alliance includes workflow co-development, so the deal goes beyond a data feed.
