Meta adds Le Figaro, Prisa and Suddeutsche Zeitung to its AI news partners

Meta announced AI news agreements with Le Figaro, Prisa and Suddeutsche Zeitung so Meta AI can link to international sources. Meta did not disclose the terms.

MENLO PARK, Calif., March 13, 2026 - Meta announced new AI news agreements with French newspaper Le Figaro, Spanish media company Prisa and German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung, and offered further detail on its recent deal with News Corp. Meta did not disclose terms.1

Terms of the deal

Engadget reported that the new deals bring the three publishers, along with News Corp, which runs outlets in the UK, into Meta AI's set of sources and should give it better access to timely information about world events. Meta said the integrations facilitate access to information by linking to articles and allowing users to visit partners' websites, while providing value to partners by enabling them to reach new audiences.1

Meta did not disclose terms of the deals. Engadget noted that the Wall Street Journal had previously reported the News Corp arrangement as worth up to $50 million a year, but that figure did not come from Meta.1

Background

Engadget noted that Meta has a long and sometimes fraught history with publishers, having paid for live video and Instant Articles and then changed course as news became less of a priority.1 The March 2026 announcement followed Meta's first AI news deal with Reuters in October 2024 and a December 2025 group of agreements with CNN, Fox News, People Inc, USA Today and Le Monde.2

What it means for data sellers

The deals show a buyer adding language and regional coverage to a chatbot that was criticized for weak answers on current events. For sellers outside the US, the lesson is that regional authority is itself a selling point.

Sellers should also note the form of the benefit: link-outs and reach. These are hard to value, so a seller should ask for measurable terms such as referral counts, and keep other rights, including archive and training rights, unlicensed until separately priced.
