Meta signs AI data deals with CNN, Fox News, People Inc, USA Today and Le Monde
Meta announced AI data agreements with a group of news publishers so Meta AI can answer news questions with real-time content and link out to the sources. Financial terms were not disclosed.
MENLO PARK, Calif., December 5, 2025 - Meta announced commercial AI data agreements with a group of news publishers, including CNN, Fox News, Fox Sports, Le Monde Group, People Inc, The Daily Caller, The Washington Examiner and USA Today and the USA Today Network. The deals let Meta AI answer news questions with real-time content and link to publishers' sites. Financial terms were not disclosed.1
Terms of the deal
Press Gazette reported that Meta said it is adding real-time content to its AI assistant and will prominently link out to its publisher partners. The company also said it wants to offer more global news, entertainment and lifestyle content on the platform.1 The page did not disclose payment amounts.
Digiday's 2025 timeline described the group as seven publishers and said the deals let Meta incorporate content into its Llama models, calling it Meta's first AI content licensing with publishers in that form.2
Background
Meta had struck its first AI news deal with Reuters in October 2024.3 In March 2026 Meta added Le Figaro, Prisa and Suddeutsche Zeitung and gave more detail on a News Corp agreement reported at up to $50 million a year.4
What it means for data sellers
The Meta announcements show a buyer assembling a broad panel of sources at once, spread across political leanings and content types, from news to lifestyle. A seller joining such a panel may be one of many, which usually limits negotiating leverage but increases the chance of a deal.
Sellers should check what the content may be used for, since sources describe both real-time answers and model use. A written scope, with exclusions, reduces the risk that a license for display becomes a license for training without further payment.
